I See Jayskers - with Special Guest Petey Johnson

I See Jayskers - with Special Guest Petey Johnson

Send us a text

Petey Johnson is a classic Jaysker.   Sam is an unapologetic classic old school Nebraska Cornhusker fan.

This episode is dedicated to the argument that Jayskers are confused fans who betray the University of Nebraska and certainly can't be trusted.  (At least that's what Sam believes.)

Topics include Nebraska football, Nebraska basketball, Nebraska baseball, Creighton baseball, Nebraska volleyball, Creighton volleyball, and NFL football.

Sam also shares his story of his love for the Raiders, while Petey describes his journey of liking the Chicago Bears, New England Patriots, Green Bay Packers, San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs.

Does Petey make his case against Sam's argument?  Don't miss this lighthearted episode.

Intro  00:01
Welcome to cowboys, not eggheads…home of the brave, not home of the fearful. The world needs more cowboys and fewer eggheads. We're everywhere podcasts are found. So tell your fellow cowboys, and let's keep the conversation alive on Facebook and Twitter. And now, cowboys, not  eggheads with Sam Fischer

Sam Fischer  00:33
so this is the episode where I get to express a little bit of frustration. I am a Nebraska Husker fan. And if there's one thing that I hate, and I've made it very public, is that I hate Jayskers. It's on my Twitter handle, you can check it out. So I have a buddy of mine, Petey Johnson, who has graciously agreed to come in here and get yelled at; because I'm a frickin energy drink into this. So I'm very passionate about my position. And I think he's pretty passionate about his position. And for the record, I have lots of friends that are Jayskers -  people are very close to me. But I just don't want — I just don't do that. So we're gonna have some fun today. Welcome my friend. Petey. How are you doing?

Petey Johnson  01:23
Good, man. Thanks for having me. I'm excited for this.

Sam Fischer  01:26
Are you ready to sprawl? Yes. So we got to set the terms here on this little argument. What is your definition of a Jaysker?

Petey Johnson  01:36
Obviously a Creighton basketball fan for sure. Because they don't have a football team but then I'd say they support the football team primarily. So I think the two primary aspects of a Jaysker is Creighton basketball, Nebraska football I would even say that a lot of Creighton fans might even dabble in the volleyball a little bit even though Creighton volleyball team is getting good again. Haha. Yeah, they’re a confused lot. Yeah. So but probably 90% of it that defines a Jaysker is so full fledged ….

Sam Fischer  02:11
Where did you go to school?

02:12
So I go to school I went to Creighton my freshman year. Okay, yep. So and I grew up in Omaha, but I mean, I went to prep. So I'll take you back as far as my bloodline goes and why I think Jaysker, like why I am the way I am so, so my, my parents both went to Creighton. So they started at Creighton, so like my mom went to University of Colorado, right? So with you and I'm glad that you're not a buffalo is that okay, so it you know, I was I was born into being a Creighton fan, just because my parents have supported Creighton athletics forever. So, from the time and I was born in 1985, so I was born right. Right when Nebraska when I was in high school, okay, yeah, super not not the age us or anything like that. But anyway, so they both went to Creighton, and probably from the time I was born to the time I was, like 20, Nebraska football lost, like, maybe 20 games. Yeah, over that course of the, you know, that timeframe that

Sam Fischer  03:15
first 38 I think is the first  38 years of my life, we had no fewer than nine wins,

03:20
which is nuts. And I was looking up a stat earlier today just because I knew we were going to talk about this, but it was like because I looked up the 80s in the 90s. And they were the first program in the history of college football to have 100 wins and back to back decades. 80s in the 90s and like one was 16 losses and one 20 losses. So yeah, so that's pretty crazy. So but I mean, I can remember going to Creighton basketball games when I was in diapers, like young. Yeah, like my my most vivid memory did you go to Nebraska? did you go to Lincoln?

Sam Fischer  03:54
I went to Nebraska. So my story is is I went to my Michael and I was I'm from not from Omaha. So I stayed with family in Omaha. And they were huge, huge Creighton fans. So that was the era when you were born and I was going I was going to all these games I was going I probably went to every Creighton home game in 1985. Like so those are Benoit Benjamin dude. I mean, yeah, Gregory Brandon. I mean the box. Yeah. And I enjoyed going to those games. Yeah. Did I miss it? I got a free ticket. But um, yeah, Willis Reed was coaching those teams Yeah. So they were there were some legendary Creighton. So I know all about Creighton

04:33
basketball. Yep. And so like, I mean, I'm talking. So my my favorite memories like as a kid growing up in this rivalry was like, I mean, I can remember Chad Gallagher Bob Hardstadt  playing at Creighton Yeah, I remember those names. I don't I don't really remember us playing Nebraska at that time. But I really started remember when we played Nebraska like when Tyronn Lue and Cookie Belcher were there and Nebraska Danny Nee and that, yeah, and Danny and he was coaching and so that's when Altman was taken. and things were starting to go well for Creighton basketball and so my memories as as Creighton basketball fans started, essentially when Dana Altman took over, you know a little bit before but like my fondest memories were actually start remembering things started

Sam Fischer  05:14
with no question. He's the guy that grew the program, right? Yeah, I don't know. I'm just yeah, if I'm wrong. I'm sorry. Streak is I know

05:21
Creighton is where they're at right now because of what Dana Altman did before he left and went to Oregon,

Sam Fischer  05:27
Tony Baroni in there somewhere to do but yeah,

05:29
I think Bernie was it was Bernie Fick. I think they guys were before Robin because it was it was like Rick Johnson and then Dane Altman I think Danny Nee like started coaching against Rick Johnson. Okay, so like, okay, you know, Nebraska know enough about Nebraska is history of basketball, too. So,

Sam Fischer  05:47
Danny, well, Danny, and he was the guy that you know, I was in college. And he was the one that kind of brought us I mean, he was the one that took us to our first to the dance for the first time so and had had tremendous players went on played, you know, NBA

06:04
so yeah. Yep. So let me bring

Sam Fischer  06:08
Nebraska and Altman and Danny all this as they're like brewing, so maybe that's on this whole Ayasker thing started  So

06:14
it had to be and and my generation might be like the heaviest Jaysker because our youth was full of national championships when the Nebraska football because you got to think most Creighton alumni stay in Omaha. And then they go to work for businesses and those businesses have season tickets to Nebraska football. Yeah. Like my dad's law firm. Growing up, they had tickets to Nebraska football. And then we actually had it's a community thing. So you know, you got family and friends that have tickets to the games every Saturday and Lincoln it's

Sam Fischer  06:46
a community thing. I'm about to make fun of that. But yeah, so I

06:49
that's that's, you know, when you're winning, it's easy to start rooting for a team now. It's it's a struggle being a Nebraska football fan at the moment

Sam Fischer  06:56
very easy to get on a frickin bandwagon. Yes, I agree. Yes, it is.

06:59
I've been on a few bandwagons in my time.

Sam Fischer  07:03
Last night at midnight from a basketball game Nebraska they are  seven and 19 Now I think yeah, that we have a horrendous situation coach needs to go Yeah, but I still go Yeah, because you know why Petey? Because I wear red. Yeah, I'm not confused dude. For sure. Why are all the Jays confused?

07:22
I don't think they’re confused about Do you like

Sam Fischer  07:24
baseball Petey? I do like baseball.  Is that right? So how in the hell do you decide which team you root for? So hey, Nebraska baseball and Creighton baseball are both pretty good. They are which way which way? You go on this one?

07:36
Yep. So I that's a coin flip for me. So that's

Sam Fischer  07:40
how do you live your life on a coin flip?  You can’t to do that. I know if if they're playing How do you do it? I don't I don't relate to that Petey. I know I know. You either have a red hat. Or you have a blue hat.

07:54
How about this? How about this if they're playing in the regular season and something's on the line? I'm rooting for Creighton. But then if Nebraska goes and Creighton's not in the tournament anymore, then I'm a going to root for Nebraska.

Sam Fischer  08:05
I don't need man. I don't want you… that's not a fan. To me. That hurts.

08:10
You don’t want additional support?

Sam Fischer  08:13
you're talking to someone who's been an Oakland Raiders fan, a Los Angeles Raiders fan and a Las Vegas Raiders fan for 42 effing years.

08:26
So let me ask you this.

Sam Fischer  08:27
Do you think I shopped around? I like the chiefs on some days but the Raiders on others. So let me really do this. Dude, I don't get it. Let me ask you this. You either are or you aren't.

08:39
Fair enough. So I have feeling I know how you're gonna answer this question. Growing up my dad being from Chicago, I rooted for the bears. Okay, okay. In 2000.

Sam Fischer  08:50
He didn't stick with him, apparently.

08:52
Okay, here's the thing. Okay. In 2010. I went to my first NFL game, it was a chiefs game. And every year since then I've been to one or two chiefs game, minus a game or two. She's easy to go to. So I was rooting for the Chiefs also, then, even when they were a

Sam Fischer  09:10
matter of convenience, you switched allegiances? Is that Is that what you're telling? So I did switch allegiances, because you just said it was their games are easier to go to. So do you think some kid from Nebraska ever got a gun made it to Oakland? I wasn't until I was 30. Yes.

09:23
Yeah. So I know where you're coming out with that. I'm just saying if I'm starting to go to chiefs games, and I'm in person.

Sam Fischer  09:33
And I You're gonna applaud for the teams as they come out.

09:37
I mean, I'm not going anyone else's games. I'm not I'm not going to anyone else's games. Now.

Sam Fischer  09:41
Why did you get on Southwest Airlines and fly to Chicago go see a bears game Cuz I had

09:45
asked my dad for money if I did that.

Sam Fischer  09:50
Yeah, you're younger. Okay. So I thought I mean, I was if you ever been to a Bears game,

09:54
I've been to a Bears game. For

Sam Fischer  09:56
God's sakes. Dude. It just it's sad to me.

09:59
I can't go back now. All right,

Sam Fischer  10:01
well, you're so confused. I don't know. I couldn't I couldn't counsel a confused person. I just I don't I can't like you're all confused like, I can't go back now can I? I don't know. Dude, can you okay?

10:14
I don't think so. So even if you were to choose to have homes,

Sam Fischer  10:18
I don't know how we got on NFL all of a sudden- but how to do you have any Chicago Bears? Like a jersey or a hat? Nothing nothing. So you have chiefs

10:28
I do. Yeah Chiefs, but I got that when they were winning two games a year. So I I'll hang my hat on that as I stuck with them through there's a

Sam Fischer  10:35
little integrity here. They're bad it was convenient to go you even when they sucked right you stuck with them when they sucked

10:40
that? Yeah, sure. Alright, so I went through maybe five or six losing losing losing seasons, so I suffered some pain. Not necessarily like other NFL fans, but anyway, we're getting off topic.

Sam Fischer  10:54
If a Creighton baseball game is on the same time as the Nebraska game baseball games gonna be on See I don't know everything I know there's conflict cuz I only follow Nebraska. I only worry about the Nebraska schedule but some poor confused Jayskers such as yourself. Yes. They've got to like monitor the schedules dude. So there is gonna be they're gonna be conflict between the Huskers and the Jays when it comes to baseball. So is it? Which one are you gonna watch?

11:21
Here's the thing. I think when it comes down to baseball, I don't. I like baseball. I enjoy watching baseball. I'm not a huge baseball fan.

Sam Fischer  11:29
So dude, it's a simple answer either.

11:32
I'm gonna watch. I'm gonna watch Creighton. Okay, so here's the thing if you asked me about

Sam Fischer  11:36
Okay, fine. If Creighton had a football team. Yes. Would you Oh, then what would you do?

11:43
If I mean if Creighton came out and created a football team I still root for Nebraska. I wouldn’t root for Creighton. I can't do that.

Sam Fischer  11:53
What in the hell! Dude is either blue or red. Or like both? I don't understand. I I truly don't understand. Jaykers I want to I know you do and I want I want my my buddy. John Puente who has been on this podcast before is the own. I'll be honest. He's the only guy that ever gave me a reasonable explanation for why Yeah, he's a Jaysker when it comes to basketball. And he actually went to the Nebraska basketball game with me last night. He said, Well, I owe money to both schools. Okay. I'm like, oh shit, Sam's an asshole. So that makes sense that that's one argument. It does make sense to me. Now. The other thing that you said to me really hurt. And I told him I didn't know you're such a Machiavellian bastard. But yeah. He said, Well, who do you think are paying for all those renovations? at Memorial Stadium? Who thinks paying for that new training facility down there? You know, yeah, flying there. Jayskers. Jayskers. Yeah. Okay, so to me, they're really effing confused because like, if you got money support your frickin team dude, support the blue. I don't understand why. What is so wrong with Nebraska basketball? We have one of the best facilities training facilities in the country. We have one of the nicest venues in the country. I mean, other you know, Power five schools come in there can't believe it. How cool it is. What about Howard Hawks?

13:24
What about Howard Hawks? What about Howard? He don't he's the biggest donor to both Nebraska and Creighton.

Sam Fischer  13:29
Well, he's confused. He needs to he needs to put his money in a bank account that draws interest that goes to one or the two. He shouldn't be doing two. He's a regent. Yeah. What about Tommy Frazier who my buddy Tom Lewis. Another guy has been on this podcast, who gleefully sends me a picture every time he sees Tommy in head to toe blue at a frickin Creighton game like what are you doing Tommy? I don't see that's what are you doing Tommy Frazier?

13:59
See that's different than fans though. Oh, it's

Sam Fischer  14:02
different. Oh, he has a different standard. No,

14:04
I don't Well, I think if you go to a school and you win a national champion championship with a school and you help build a program, no matter what that program is going through in any sport. I think you should be supporting that one. So I think he's off. So he's

Sam Fischer  14:18
out of line. Like I'm blue. That’s wrong.  Hear that Tommy? Yeah, sure that I'm with

14:21
you on that.

Sam Fischer  14:24
Well, that's because Tommy was one of your heroes when you're what 10 years old? 889 10 years old. Yeah. So that's like you you feel like you're a bit you feel a little betrayal. So I Oh, now we're really digging deep. Yes. That's how I feel betrayal. Like you sons of bitches like you can frickin and we're gonna keep that in there. You sons of bitches. You can you can frickin come to my stadium on Saturdays and wear red, and then think that you can frickin wear blue during the offseason. Yep, here in downtown Omaha. Sure bullshit. So what about shit? That there is too easy it's like all Creighton fans it's too easy they're the only ones that I know that frickin really stroll in with about 10 minutes left before the half because they just came from the manicure shop man they are soft.  s so it gets loud though it's well yes that's why they have alcohol. And so you know, I think alcohol is coming soon to Pinnacle Bank so perhaps all sudden you'll be wearing

15:26
red I don't know that's good might be coming from Memorial Stadium.

Sam Fischer  15:29
Yes sir. Well, we're for all those all those years and once again, I don't mind I don't mind that you come and spend money in Lincoln. Yeah, just wear blue so I can frickin see where you're at. Okay, I trust you. Betrayal/ trust  — it’s a a matter of trusted dude

15:45
So if Creighton doesn't have a football program are we just not supposed to root for football?

Sam Fischer  15:49
No. Do you know the scene from The Hangover with that Korean dude what's his name? He's hilarious - Kim Jong yeah no ever he's there's a scene in there or something like well what about this? What about that and he’s… not my problem. And I'll perhaps that's racist but that's that's my answer to that question. we don't have a football …  not my problem man. Not my problem Get One all you rich j square fan like like why are you don't shove your money to the Husker team when I went anyway once you once you shove it to the Creighton team and then you're the Creighton and you could have you can have a frickin football team and be merry is the day is long.

16:30
Yeah, I mean, except we'd be losing to Fordham and stuff like that. But that's a different story for a different day. Yeah. Shoot, I just mean come on. I'm born and raised in Nebraska and

Sam Fischer  16:42
not not having not just just just forgive anybody that betrays you or just forgive anybody you don't trust. Okay?

16:49
My reason my reason to be a joker is legitimate as anyone will get other than going to school at both both places. Being born and bred in Nebraska, growing up on Nebraska football, but then the I don't want to say like the convenience because like I had nothing to do with having the tickets but my parents did. And going into games before I even knew what a choice was.

Sam Fischer  17:18
Do you know what I'm saying? But you are man dude, your man now and you know what a choice? You got to make it? That’s my roots.

17:24
Oh, yeah. But I mean, I can't bear Creighton games. Oh, why?

Sam Fischer  17:28
I think you probably describe a vast but as you said there are a lot of Jaysker. Fans are younger and they I don't know, maybe you know. I don't know. Did you ever make it down to the good old Bob Devanney The Bob and see Mo Iba coach Dave Hoppen and those guys, did you ever meet Danny Nee or? Okay. This was when you bought you're born but did you ever see a Danny Nee team? I mean, we had guys Yeah. Beu Reid Eric Piatkowski. Eric Strickland all these guys played in the frickin Pros Yeah, so actually pike Piatkowski lives not far from where we’re taping

18:03
Yeah, and I got a funny story by Eric Piatkoski - you can put that in here later if you want or not. But in high school, when Nebraska was they were like middle the pack, maybe big 12. They weren't the worst. They weren't the best. And they were competitive in a lot of games except for like against maybe the the big guys Kanas and

Sam Fischer  18:25
upset or two a year. Yeah. So no doubt he would beat Texas. It was literally like

18:31
taking advantage of the conference that Nebraska has played in to go watch good basketball. Because my whole life growing up up until about maybe seven or eight years ago. Creighton was in the valley. Right? So I go down to Lincoln and I catch a Kansas game.

Sam Fischer  18:47
State vs Yes. Evansville. Yeah.

18:51
I mean, so yeah, I'd go see, Texas. I've been to Oklahoma when they had like a hollis price. Yeah. Okay, you and so it's been fun going down. But when I was down there, I was rooting for Nebraska. I wasn't room for that. Right.

Sam Fischer  19:04
So you grabbed your red hat that day. Now? Yeah, support

19:07
the local team. I know it's confusing, but I mean,

Sam Fischer  19:12
it's it's it's it's beyond confusing to me. I

19:14
jI'm a black or white. Yes, like, and I don't know that.

Sam Fischer  19:18
You're going through this door. I don't walk through the middle of the day. I don't walk through the wall. For Christ's sake. I walked through a door one door or this door. I don't walk right to the middle of the thing. I would say

19:29
like I used to let like Creighton losses like ruin my day- basketball. I've grown out of that to where the outcome of a game doesn't necessarily ruin my day. If it's a big enough game. It'll damper it a little bit. But I think I've come to the point where it's like, okay, I mean, I'm from Nebraska. So I have a I have a somewhere to hang my head on. As far as supporting Nebraska, goes in other sports outside of basketball. Even in basketball, they're not playing Creighton, I'm going to root for him. I'll support them. How about that?

Sam Fischer  20:02
So you're basically your philosophy is you are going to support Nebraska football, because Creighton doesn't have a football program. Who am I? No, not my problem. So you're going to support Creighton volleyball over Husker volleyball. No, I don't think so. Oh you're not oh no oh no it's a bandwagon thing it's a winning they've been in Nebraska basket or volleyballs

20:29
I'd be like I would be elated if for Creighton if they beat Nebraska volleyball cuz I mean Nebraska volleyball is the standard you told me

Sam Fischer  20:37
you support Huskers over Creighton but yet you'd be delighted Creighton beat the Huskers. Okay, so you don't really frickin support the Huskers

20:47
So, and the only reason I'm saying this because I've been maybe like 15 or 20 Nebraska volleyball games and like it was throughout the years. And I've been to two of their national championship matches in attendance. That's a great team. Yeah, it's been awesome and like one of the most like those are the two of the most fun times I've had at a  sporting event.

Sam Fischer  21:06
Congratulations. Yeah, but yet you still support Creighton over the Huskers in basketball and basketball but not volleyball. See, I'm confused. I apologize listeners. I'm not falling along. Okay, so he's easy. I got to draw this up. That's fine. You'll support Nebraska. Football you'll support Nebraska volleyball. Yeah. So you will not you won't support Creighton football unless they had a team if they had a team you support them. No you said no. You will you said no. You would only

21:42
because I've been asked them a whole lot yet. No. I

Sam Fischer  21:44
mean, if Creighton had a or if I'm so confused. Reading See, just support one or the other. It wouldn't be this confusing. If Creighton had .. and I wouldn't be here. Right? That's right. We're glad you're here. But I just man, it's it's challenging. I mean, it's gonna be confusing me. I mean, I understand must be rough being you dude. I mean, like getting up every morning and just like my God Who am I get like, you know, like I'm terrible sports fan. Oh my god I cheer for I'm like a terrible the bears are gonna be the chiefs. Again be the Jays is it gonna be the Huskers? I mean, good grief.

22:23
So okay, how did you become a Raiders fan? I don't want to Go to Jayskers. How did you become a Raiders very, very fan stick to it. And

Sam Fischer  22:31
now the next question is no, go no, no. Oakland A's fan. How do I become a Raiders fan? I became a Raiders fan because about the age of 12. The nowhere there's nowhere land for for growing up to me because you're not old enough for a babysitter, but you're probably not need shouldnt; and be left alone. It's very confusing. Yeah. And so you're trying to find yourself a little bit. Yeah. And development. I really like football. So I I started watch pro football. And that was 1980. And that was back in the days you haven't seen because you're too young. But there used to be this thing called the JC Penney catalog. Okay. And it was like it was when the thing came in the mail right? Whoo. Yeah. Because there was no internet — my mom probably there's good yeah, I'm guarantee you she didn't. There was no internet, but that's where you shop from. And this thing looked like a frickin encyclopedia. I mean, you open it up and that's where you shop. So they had a full two two page spread of all the team logos. Yeah. And I looked at that Raiders helmet. I thought holy shit. Yeah, I mean, it's Warren Sapp said the dirty little secret NFL. Is it every player really? At some point or another? They do want to wear it. Yeah, and black for sure. But I saw it right away. I was just boom. Well, that's so happened to be the very year the Jim Plunkett. I'm getting goosebumps talking about right here. See, I'm not confused. He's not lying. I'm not I'm not confused. I love he bleeds silver and black that. One of the greatest stories of all time. We haven't heard a story, you know, parent, man of both his parents were blind. They had no money. He gets a scholarship at Stanford. becomes the first becomes the first NFL quarterback, rookie to start every down from New England Patriots or play every down He gets murdered. That's back when there were no you know, concussion  protocol or nothing. And to this day that man suffers. Yeah, but anyway, he gets traded he's washed up gets traded 49Niners gets benched his career's over Al Davis says I want you to back up Dan, Ken stapler at the Raiders. And anyway, Dan Passtoini breaks his leg, Jim Plunkett  plays. He takes him to the Super Bowl, the first wildcard team in the history of the NFL to win the Super Bowl. Yeah. And that they had men. That was Tom Flores who just went to NFL Hall of Fame. And it was just Cliff branch his receiver just just got nominated and it was Ted Hendricks and that was Lester Hayes Yeah, who I got to meet twice now in the last couple years. And ever since then I've been with them thick and thick or thin. Yes. And as a matter of fact, I met my wife. We both worked at same place. She was actually worked for me. I was her direct supervisor. And I saw her one day wearing raider's gear. And I fell in love at first sight. Maybe I didn't ask for him many girls out in my life. I know it's hard for you. Oh bleep ladies, but I'm pretty shy. And I asked her out and because her mother lived in Sacramento, yeah. years ago, and so she was a Raiders fan. And I just did just I mean with the Raiders have been horrible many times. Many times. We have been for sure. Well, you know, we're this is the first year we're gonna play off since we went to Super Bowl. Oh, and I was at that Super Bowl, by the way. Um, but it just never I've never ever ever thought about chearing sharing for the eefs Are you kidding me are the donkeys? I mean, are you kidding? The Denver Broncos. Yeah, donkeys. So that's my story. The Raiders that's never looked back did so.

26:09
Let me say this.

Sam Fischer  26:10
I mean, there are times as a Raiders fan, where you have got to dig in and you have to get excited about things like oh, I don't know first downs. I mean, that's to me. That's what a fan is like. You're thick and thin Dude, it doesn't matter. I don't I don't play games. It's I was

26:27
like the the black Yeah, and I was like the worst fan growing up. Because I had ties to like every team that was good. So it was convenient for me to be like oh, I'll root for them while they're being good or whatever.

Sam Fischer  26:38
You know, and a lot of it too may have been mean to the media I'm trying to think the media would have been different for you like for me growing up if the rate there was only one way to see a game I mean, the games weren't on all you couldn't you know I grew up in the middle of nowhere in western Nebraska and so we saw what was on so if the Raiders Ron it was a big deal. So I couldn't shop around and like oh well this team's good this year and so maybe that's different so yeah, and it's tough so of course Kansas City is closer

27:06
I get it so let me let me run it down for you like this and I know we're we're talking about some different now but growing up like the order of these teams that were good might be slightly off because I can't remember exactly but it was like the cowboys were good the Niners were good the Packers were good. And then the Patriots got good. Maybe after the Broncos I never liked

Sam Fischer  27:25
patriots got good and a very pivotal moment in NFL history against the Raiders against the Niners which which by the way Brady just freakin admitted was absolutely terrible that 30 for 30 was all out Raiders also had some of the Bengals game I don't know if you heard the whistle the whistle was awful that but anyway I digress

27:42
we can do another we can do another we can do tons of sports and stuff like that. We'll do that I'll show good. So okay, when let's start with Dallas I guess when I was like in kindergarten I got a Dallas starter jacket because that was a thing to do home school yeah right whatever. Then the Niners got good our next door neighbors loved them saw like oh yeah, I'll root for the Niners they dominated you know, like against the chargers and stuff like that. I know you hate hearing this, but I just got to lay it out for you. So sad for me. Okay, who got good after that the Packers. Hey, Packers take over from the Niners. Yeah, for our Okay, so yeah, let's say the Packers took over my dad's family. All of them lived in Wisconsin. He my uncle lived in Green Bay. My aunt uncle's lived in Milwaukee from their shipping packers gear. Yes. For Christmas and all that stuff. Like I was like, Oh, yeah. Brett Farvre. I love Brett Facvre. I was like Brett Farr for Halloween for like three years in a row with my dog. And my dog was like, was it which one who's there? Sharp? Shannon Sharpe? Yeah. Man. Okay. So family in Milwaukee. Um, then it was like, okay, the bears are getting good. My dad's from Chicago. I like the bears. That was fun. Patriots after the bears. Right. The bears good before the Patriots. Yes.

Sam Fischer  29:03
Yeah. Well, they beat the pay. They beat the hell out of patriots in. Well, you know, the 85 Super

29:10
Bowl. So like when the bears had that unreal defense. Patriot started getting good. Yeah. So they beat the Patriots. 46. So my dad's from Chicago, okay, like the bears, whatever. Boston New England. My sister. This is where, like I started having a family in Boston. Like literally every time one of my family members have been in the city for

Sam Fischer  29:31
the NFC was getting boring for you. So now were skipping over to the AFC. Okay.

29:35
So I did okay, but here's the thing. I I didn't like actively watch the Patriots. I enjoyed watching them because they were so good. And my sister and brother both lived out there and my sister still is out there to this day. She's probably been out there for man. 15 years, maybe 20 years. I've had a family a sibling living in Boston from 2000 Okay, so 22 years  No, I'm Yeah, I mean, I was 10 Yeah, when they moved out there, right. So, you know, I'd root for New England I'd watch them win Super Bowls and that was cool, right? And then I finally started going physically to chiefs games, right? So once I started going physically to chiefs games, I was like, alright, you know what? Yes, I've been a poor fan. I've, I've jumped around, whatever. I've shopped my talents as a fan to other teams. But I stopped, I'm going I'm physically going to games. And when I started going to games, my cousin and I, he took me to the Ravens playoff game where we choked in the second half, we were up like 21, seven or something in the first half a halftime and then Ray Lewis just went nuts, their defense, they just destroyed us in the second half. But I was like, okay, you know what, that was amazing. Arrowhead is a fun place to watch a game. I'm gonna try to go there, you know, once or twice a year whenever I can. And that's when I started hanging my head on the chief and be like, Okay, I'm done. I'm done. I'm done. Switching NFL teams. I know, that's easy to say right now because they were good. But I mean, I was rooting for the Chiefs when they were winning two or three or four games a year before Alex Smith started coming and win an eight or nine games a year. So yes, I was a poor fan. And that's probably why it's easy for me to be like Creighton, Nebraska.

Sam Fischer  31:14
Honestly, hey, that's, that's a that's a legit explanation. I mean, I get that. I mean, that's legit. I mean, it's a lot of it's how you just it's how you experience life or life came to you or whatever. And so, so I guess my question is now that you're an adult,

31:30
who am I? Are

Sam Fischer  31:31
you gonna stick with the chiefs?

31:33
Yes. 100 percent

Sam Fischer  31:34
if they don't win one game next year, you're gonna go down there. You'll go down there and I love going

31:41
there. Alright. Congratulate you can hold me on that. Okay.

Sam Fischer  31:45
Oh, here that this is you know, this the internet is forever. Um, okay, I'll hold you that. Yes, sir. And so you're gonna remain a Jaysker? I have to it just it just I can't I can't convince you. Do you appreciate? Oh, yeah. Can I ask you this? Do you at least appreciate where I'm coming? Hell

32:05
yeah, I do. I love and I love your

Sam Fischer  32:09
heart. I’m an old bastard who can't be changed.

32:13
The yes was not because you're a bastard. It was just because you're old. But no, yes. I respect 100% where you're coming from as far as Nebraska or not, you know, I'm saying like, Yeah, are you in? Or are you out?

Sam Fischer  32:30
Yeah, that's it. I mean, they're you know, they're not you know, it's like,

32:34
I just it doesn't make sense for me to root for Creighton basketball and then like, Go root for Notre Dame football that, you know, I'd need to root for someone. I love college football. And I and I love where I'm from. I love Nebraska.

Sam Fischer  32:48
Well keep sending us money. Dude. I don't know what to say. But you didn't

32:51
get money yet? I don't make him I don't make enough of that. Yeah, well, you'll get it eventually.

Sam Fischer  32:56
They're gonna be giving away tickets next season. But yeah, I digress. Hey, this has been fun now. This is I've so we're gonna wrap this up a little bit. But and we're gonna have five what I call five rapid questions and you mister confused like, oh, no, you have to come up with it. So the rule the game is you've got to just it's just the first thing comes to mind. You gotta say, Hey, are you ready? Yes. Simple and I haven't really wavered from the other from the other guests. It's kind of fun. favorite ice cream. Chocolate. Congratulations. Pete that was a  very solid quick answer. Favorite cowboy. What kind of cowboy? Any kind of cowboy so you're think too much. You're just what's up? John cowboy. John Dutton. John Dutton. Yeah. Okay, very good. Very good. A favorite egghead. You Oh, stop.

33:48
All right. How about Betsworth Jeff betsworth? He's no. He is in my world. I love that man. Really? Oh, yeah. Egg. Had you in a good way. Do you think? In a good way? No. Come on. We're getting off track. Right. Betsy?

Sam Fischer  34:00
Betsy? Is this a cogratulations? Betsy? Uh, that doesn't apply to you a favorite movie?

34:10
Miracle.

Sam Fischer  34:11
I haven't seen it. See that's like what a hockey movie.  Oh, sure. Sure, sure. See? Oh, cool. Cool.

34:19
That's my favorite movie. Favorite movie. Now? He's two years old. He almost knows online already. Well, he just turned three. Okay, he loves it.

Sam Fischer  34:25
Good. Good. Yeah. Cool. All right, man. Any closing arguments there?

34:30
Nah, man. I just hope Nebraska football turns it around to be honest with you. That's it. No, no arguments just hope.

Sam Fischer  34:37
I hope so too. But guess what? Hope is not a strategy.
